Advances in technology have touched every part of our lives and our homes. And one place that has benefited immensely is the kitchen.
You don’t even need to be a gadget lover; there are plenty of developments you can enjoy strictly for their practicality such as smart appliances and clever storage technologies. But on the other hand, they’re also the perfect way to bring that something special to your kitchen and make you the envy of all your friends.
Check out our round-up of six of the most innovative technologies and bring your kitchen well and truly into the 21st century.
1. The Charging Draw
As the hub of the home, the kitchen is usually the place where your family scatters their gadgets across its surfaces, ready to be scooped up before they head out. This is, of course, untidy and unsafe, but we do it out of convenience. To address this, you can allocate a drawer for all gadgets in the home and rig it to the mains to act as a charging port. This can even be done wirelessly with device charging mats.
2. Install Mission Command
The ultimate in home technology, a central command is really only feasible if you’re building or renovating a property from scratch. The system will allow you to control everything in your home, including lighting, heating, sound, and window coverings, from each room in the house and one central unit, which coincidentally, would fit very nicely in the kitchen.
3. Drawers Are The New Doors
The drawer may be a more primitive technology, but it still holds the power to transform any space. Rather than kitting out your cabinets with cumbersome hinged doors that force you to get on your hands and knees to delve deep into its innards, fitting drawers will provide you with the perfect little vehicles for simple, easy-to-access storage.
4. Get Rid Of The Kettle
The plastic electric kettle has become a common addition to most kitchens. Even though it’s an ugly and out of place object that takes up more space on our worktops, we embrace it because of its convenience.
The boiling-water tap takes this convenience to a whole new level, integrating instant hot water into the kitchen sink. They don’t come cheap, though, so it’s worth digging around and exploring your options as the prices are on their way down.
5. The Warming Drawer
If you’ve used a range cooker before you’re probably aware of their small ovens allocated for warming. This is a little luxury but it also serves as a very handy and time-saving way to warm up plates, prove bread, and defrost food. If you have a built-in oven, you can add this feature by fitting a drawer just underneath for easy access.
